U.S. Nationals Junior Pairs Short Program

Fujimoto/Barsi-Rhyne: 20.65 TES + 17.80 PCS = 38.45
  • She is 20 and he is 20 and they are skating to Bohemian Rhapsody
  • They open with a nice death spiral with a change of hold; slow but consistent speed
  • Nice entry to the Group 3 lift and she has both knees bent
  • Good double twist but completely vertical
  • They both need to really reach through their arms and extend these positions in the step sequence; some of their edges are also a little choppy
  • They rotate in different directions but their side by side jumps are nice
  • The feed cut out but the landing of the throw loop looked nice, just not sure of the number of rotations
  • Good positions in the pairs spin but not a lot of speed
Denney/Frazier: 29.46 TES + 24.67 PCS = 54.13 and into 1st place
  • She is 16 and he is 19 and they are skating to Chicago
  • Nice high horizontal double twist with arms overhead and a clean catch
  • Nice throw triple loop
  • Side by side double lutzes were nice
  • She is definitely a showman on the ice!
  • Nice entry to the lift with her hand behind her back and a transition into her on her back and a one arm hold
  • She's a little sideways on the death spiral, but otherwise nice
  • This step sequence is really fun and I think if they sold it just a bit more they could really get the crowd behind them
  • A little slow on their pairs spin but nice positions and transitions between the positions
  • They really skate to the music which I like about them
Simpson/Blackmer: 32.18 TES + 23.34 PCS = 55.52 and into 1st place
  •  Love their dramatic entrance even before they are announced
  • She is 15 and he is 20 and they are skating to Crouching Tiger
  • It's hard to believe she's only 15 but skated on the Senior Grand Prix last season
  • Nice distance and height on the throw triple loop
  • Double twist with a clean catch and nice exit
  • One leg hold in the star lift and she exits still holding the leg
  • A little close together on the side by side double lutzes, but nicely landed
  • She could be more stretched out in the death spiral position
  • Nice fire in their faces in this step sequence but I'd like to see a little more attach through their body as well
  • Nice positions in the pairs spin and I like that they pick up speed as they go
Pfund/Reiss: 23.62 TES + 20.09 PCS = 43.71 and into 3rd place
  • She is 14 and he is 20 and they are skating to Fantasy on Dark Eyes
  • Nice speed in the double twist with a good catch
  • Nice side by side double lutzes
  • Good throw double loop but she doesn't pull her arms all the way in for the rotation
  • Decent death spiral position
  • Good entry to the Lift but she needs more stretch through the split position; into a flip exit
  • Some loss of synchronization in their step sequence at the beginning and end
  • Ugly catch foot position in their pairs spin (he's pulling her leg out awkwardly to the side) but the rest of the positions are better
Calalang/Sidhu: 28.10 TES + 22.74 PCS = 50.84 and into 3rd place
  • She is 16 and he is 20 and they are skating to Elite Syncopations
  • Nice double twist with a clean catch and her arms overhead
  • Good distance, height and flow out of the throw triple loop
  • Nice backwards entry for him into the group 3 lift with a good change of position and an exit into a dance lift
  • Their transitions are so charming and perfectly fit the music and program
  • Good speed and positions through their pairs spin
  • Nice side by side double lutzes
  • I like that they use their whole bodies through this step sequence but some of their lines don't match up
  • Nice death spiral position for her and a change of hold
Oltmanns/Santillan: TES + PCS = 37.40 and into 6th place
  • She is 14 and he is 20 and they are skating to Pink Panther
  • It looks like she bobbles on some twizzles at the beginning of the program
  • Nice positions and speed on their pairs spin
  • Nice side by side double lutzes with good flow out
  • Nice star lift with a single stag hold
  • She falls on the throw triple loop--it looks like she never really got her feet underneath her for the takeoff
  • A little crashy on the landing of the double twist
  • Nice death spiral position and good exit
  • I really like their choreography in the step sequence but he bobbles towards the end
Duarte/Grafton: TES + PCS = 48.83 and into 4th place
  • She is 18 and he is 20 and they are skating to Meditation
  • She is one of those people who were just born to wear buns--she looks so stunning in this dress as well
  • Not a lot of height on the double twist but a decent catch
  • Nice solid throw triple loop
  • Nice side by side double lutzes with a nice arm variation and flow out of the jump
  • Nice stretched out star lift with the stag hold and a flip exit
  • Really pretty death spiral position but it looked like his hand slipped a bit on the change of hold
  • Very nice flow through this step sequence with some interesting patterns between them
  • Gorgeous spiral right into the pairs spin but a bit of awkward transition on the change of direction
  • They are so lovely when they hit their programs!
Goldberg/Dolkiewicz: 19.46 TES + 17.69 PCS = 37.15 and into 8th place
  • Ice Network video issue and none of their program was shown
de la Mora/Wilson: 20.16 TES + 19.28 PCS = 39.44 and into 6th place
  • She is 13 and he is 20 and they are skating to Kalinka
  • Nice double twist with a clean catch
  • Nice throw double loop with a lot of height
  • Interesting sideways stag in the star lift
  • She steps out of the side by side double lutzes
  • Good death spiral position but really flat after the change of hand
  • She's a little hunched over in the first position of their pairs spin but it really gains speed as they go along
Pearce/Norris: 24.97 TES + 20.57 PCS = 45.54 and into 5th place
  • She is 18 and he is 22 and they are skating to Maleguena
  • Decent double twist
  • Nice hip lift with a flip exit
  • Really nice throw triple loop
  • Nice pairs spin but it looks like she almost falls over in the change of foot
  • Good double lutz in opposite directions
  • Good death spiral but really slow at the end
Aaron/Settlage: 23.40 TES + 22.86 PCS = 46.26 and into 5th place
  • She is 17 and he is 19
  • Good double twist
  • Too much height on the throw triple loop and she can't control the landing
  • Nice side hip to hand hold  with a good flip exit
  • Good double lutzes
  • A big stop in the middle of their pairs spin but good positions throughout
  • Really nice timing with the music through this step sequence, good choreography and relationship with each other; she bobbles on the twizzles at the very end
  • Really pretty death spiral position but he almost lowers her to the ice on the change of hold
