World Championships: Men's Free Skate

Misha Ge, UZB: 57.62 TES + 64.50 PCS -1.00 = 121.12 Total: 186.41 and into 1st place
Kim Lucine, MON: 62.24 TES + 59.20 PCS = 121.44 Total: 181.37 and into 2nd place
  • Good opening triple flip + double toe
  • Solid triple loop
  • Nice triple lutz stepping right into a good sit spin with nice speed and a good twist variation
  • He seems a bit slow through this step sequence but there's a lot of character in this program and he is really performing
  • Good triple salchow
  • Decent broken leg camel with a nice change of foot picking up speed into a catchfoot camel
  • Nice triple lutz + double toe
  • Good triple + double toe
  • Double axel looked a little wild but he landed it
  • Nice change of positions in the combination spin with good speed and centering
  • Great hydroblade but a bit awkward getting out of it and stepping right into the double axel at the very end of the program.
Viktor Pfeifer, AUT: 61.57 TES + 60.36 PCS = 121.93 Total: 182.54 and into 2nd place
  • Beautiful triple Tano lutz
  • Nice triple loop--he really takes the time to hold the landing and ride out the jump with good arm and leg positions
  • Double flip
  • Triple flip + double toe
  • Double axel--he has been solid on his jumps with some very nice in between moments which should give him good choreography and transition PCS
  • Good triple toe + triple toe in the bonus
  • Triple toe + double toe + double toe
  • Nice double axel 
  • Good speed through his camel spin with great extension and flexibility through the catchfoot
  • Nice tucked in sit position with good speed
  • Lots of movement in his step sequence and well timed with the music but not a lot of difficult in the steps and edge changes
  • Good speed and flow between the positions in the combination spin but he ended just after his music
Peter Liebers, GER: 66.14 TES + 59.78 PCS = 125.92 Total: 184.13 and into 2nd place
  • Nice opening triple flip
  • Good triple axel + double toe
  • He was cat like on that triple lutz landing it even though it was off in the air
  • Nice use of the music in this step sequence with lots of turns and changes of edges although he seems to be riding the top of the edge a lot of the time
  • Small bobble on a transition move but it probably won't cost him anything
  • A little low on the landing of the triple axel but he hangs on
  • Good speed through the sit spin
  • Triple salchow + triple toe with a fall out and hands on the ice
  • Triple loop
  • Double axel
  • He seems to have all the goods, but he needs to work on polishing and finishing off every element
  • A nice change of tempo and energy in the choreographic step sequence
  • Losing his centering on the change of foot in his final combination spin
Christopher Caluza, PHI: 60.73 TES + 61.50 PCS = 122.23 Total: 184.10 and into 3rd place
  • Solid triple loop
  • Good triple lutz + triple toe
  • Nice triple flip with an arm variation on the landing
  • Really nice one foot section in his step sequence that takes him half way across the ice; lots of movement, use of his arms and upper body
  • Double axel
  • Good twisted sit spin into a broken leg in front position
  • Flying camel spin with a decent catchfoot
  • Spread eagle into a triple loop + double toe (one arm variation) + double toe (two arm variation)
  • Triple lutz + double toe with one arm variation
  • Nice attack in the choreographic step sequence and he is really flying across the ice
  • Final double axel and he puts his hand down on the landing
  • Closing combination spin ending with an upright catchfoot
Javier Raya, ESP: 53.23 TES + 58.02 PCS -1.00 = 110.26 Total: 167.48 and into 6th place
  • Gorgeous spread eagle into a double axel
  • Triple flip + double toe--no height at all on the second jump; impressed he pulled it off!
  • Stumble out of the triple lutz
  • He has a very light and airy quality to his skating which suits this program well
  • Nice stretched out position in the sit spin with good speed
  • Fall on the 2nd triple lutz attempt
  • Triple toe + double toe with one arm variation on the landing
  • Nice position in his camel spin but the leg gets in front of him on the twisted variation
  • Great character through the step sequence with nice changes of edges
  • Nice double axel + double toe + double toe
  • A step out on the triple toe
  • Nice triple salchow
  • Nice quality to the choreographic step sequnce with nice lines and connection with the music
  • Nice stretch through the positions in his closing combination spin but he seems to finish just after the music

Takahiko Kozuka, JPN: 73.55 TES + 73.30 PCS = 146.85 Total: 218.63 and into 1st place
  • Popped open his quad attempt
  • Quad toe + double toe very tight on the landing and he is forward on the toe pick
  • Hand down and turn out of the triple axel
  • Seems a tad slow through the combination spin but maintains the speed throughout and nice positions
  • Nice edge quality through the step sequence
  • Good triple axel + double toe + double loop
  • Nice twisted position in the sit spin
  • Double flip
  • Triple loop
  • Triple salchow
  • Triple flip + triple toe
  • Great lyrical quality to the choreographic step sequence with great use of his arms and hands to extend through the movement 
  • Good twisted position in the camel and nice speed through the change of foot and ending with a scratch spin
  • He needed a clean skate to keep himself in contention and he made too many mistakes.  Now he'll have to wait and see if he can climb a spot into the top 12 and guarantee two places for himself on the Grand Prix
Kevin van der Perren, BEL: 79.86 TES + 67.80 PCS = 147.66 Total: 214.04 and into 2nd place
  • Nice opening quad toe
  • Good triple axel
  • Nice triple lutz
  • Good speed in the sit spin with a nice twisted position and ending with a tucked position and arms overhead
  • One foot section that takes him more than halfway across the ice to open his footwork
  • Nice triple flip
  • Great triple salchow + triple toe + triple toe
  • Triple flip + double axel sequence
  • Triple loop + double toe
  • Double axel--he is absolutely drilling these jumps today and all of them have so much height and easy landings
  • Not a lot of speed on this combination spin 
  • Decent position in the camel spin but slowing down toward the end into the change of foot
Tomas Verner, CZE: 65.94 TES + 74.34 PCS = 140.28 Total: 210.66 and into 3rd place
  • Opens with a triple toe
  • Nice triple lutz with good flow out of it
  • Good triple axel
  • Good speed through his first spin
  • Step out of his triple axel and can't tack on the combo
  • Nice triple loop but not a lot of height on the free leg on the landing
  • Triple lutz + double toe
  • Triple flip
  • Triple salchow a little forward on the landing but no hand down
  • Nice edge work and performance quality in the step sequence
  • Decent camel position with a flying change of foot into a tucked sit spin
Nan Song, CHN: 80.53 TES + 67.22 PCS -1.00 = 146.75 Total: 216.33 and into 2nd place
  • Huge quad toe + triple toe and he made those landings look easy
  • Falls on the quad attempt at the other end of the rink
  • Nice triple axel right on the music
  • Good stretched out position in the sit spin
  • Nice quality of  movement in the step sequence with good deep edges
  • Good triple axel + double toe
  • Nice triple right into a camel spin but he loses his centering on the change of position
  • Doubled the flip
  • Triple salchow a little low on the landing but he squeaks out the free leg
  • Nice double axel + double toe + double toe
  • Good positions in hte final combination spin with a flying change of foot and ending just after his music
Sergei Voronov, RUS: 77.09 TES + 66.14 PCS = 143.23 Total: 210.04 and into 5th place
  • Solid opening quad toe
  • Triple axel a bit shaky on the landing but he hangs on
  • Triple axel (turn with foot up) + double loop
  • The free leg could be higher in the camel position but good speed and a nice catchfoot
  • The step sequence seems very slow and he's riding the tops of the edges a lot
  • Triple lutz forward on the toe pick on the landing but hangs on
  • Double axel + triple toe + double toe
  • Triple loop + double toe
  • Triple loop
  • Triple salchow--not a lot of in betweens between these jumps and I'd like to see more choreography and transitions from him
  • A lot of head bobbing through the choreographic step sequence but no real attempt to use his head and upper body in connection with the movement
  • Ends with a decent combination spin
Artur Gachinski, RUS: 64.48 TES + 74.08 PCS -2.00 = 136.56 Total: 205.06 and into 6th place
  • Fall on his opening quad toe attempt
  • Fall on his second quad toe attempt and no combination so he won't receive full credit for the jump
  • Triple axel + double toe +double loop
  • Triple axel
  • He could use more stretch through the catchfoot position in the camel spin but good speed
  • Nice one foot sequence with turns and changes of edge but he could have deeper edges in certain places during this footwork
  • Double lutz
  • Triple salchow
  • Triple loop right on the music
  • Double axel + double axel sequence--again he loads up all his jumps together with not a lot of in betweens and steps going into the jumps which would give him extra GOE and PCS points
  • Nice position in the camel spin but it looks like he can't decide what to do with his bottom arm and it just hangs there for a good portion of the spin

Adam Rippon, USA: 70.24 TES + 73.84 PCS -1.00 = 143.08 Total: 216.63 and into 2nd place
  • Two foots the landing of the quad salchow and falls
  • Two foots the triple axel landing, turns out of it but tacks on the double toe
  • Nice triple loop
  • Beautiful step sequence and each element flows so easily into the next with great extension through his arms and hands to finish off the movement
  • Triple axel and he manages to save it by lunging and putting his free leg down
  • Nice triple flip + triple toe
  • Two foots the first jump in that triple + triple combo
  • Rippon lutz right on the music 
  • He lands so close to the boards that his combination spin is almost on top of them but he maintains good speed and position
  • Great double axel right on the music
  • Nice twisted camel position into a good donut
  • It wasn't pretty in places but he fought for every jump landing
Kevin Reynolds, CAN: 73.45 TES + 70.80 PCS = 144.25 Total: 217.20 and into 2nd place
  • Nice opening quad salchow
  • Double toe
  • A bit of a two foot on the triple axel landing
  • Triple loop
  • Nice movement through his step sequence with good edges and nice changes of position
  • Flying entry to the sit spin and into a camel ending with a scratch foot although he seems to be just ahead of his music
  • Quad toe + double toe
  • Double axel + triple toe
  • Triple lutz
  • Triple salchow + triple toe + double loop
  • I'd like to see a straighter leg in the illusion spin but ends with a nice headless scratch spin
Denis Ten, KAZ: 78.78 TES + 74.92 PCS  = 153.70 Total: 229.70 and into 1st place
  • Quad toe was very nice
  • Lots of height on the triple axel but has to step out and put his hand down
  • Triple axel + double toe very nice
  • Another clean triple and he has such a gorgeous landing position with let at 90 degrees and a nice straight back
  • Nice twisted position in the camel and a nice flying change of foot and pulling right into the donut position
  • Triple lutz + triple salchow sequence
  • Triple loop + double toe
  • Double flip
  • Great twisted sit variation but losing speed through the tuck position
  • Nice double axel
  • Nice speed and positions through his final combination spin but ended just after his music
  • When he lands his jumps he is really something.  Great technique and great feel for the music.
Jeremy Abbott, USA: 69.78 TES + 81.56 PCS = 151.34 Total: 226.19 and into 2nd place
  • This is one of my favorite programs of the season and if he can stay in the moment he can deliver a great performance
  • Nice quad toe and he fights to stick that landing
  • Big triple axel + double toe (a little forward on the landing of the axel)
  • Good speed through his sit spin with a nice transition out
  • Triple flip with a nice spread eagle right out of it
  • Nice deep edges in the step sequence, lots of level changes, full body movement and right with the music
  • Step out of the triple axel and hands down
  • Triple lutz + triple toe right on top of the boards but he hangs on
  • Single loop
  • Triple flip forward on the landing but he stays upright
  • Nice twisted upright position into a scratch spin
  • Nice quality to the choreographic step sequence 
  • Triple salchow and he just barely manages to get his free leg out
  • Good speed in hte camel spin into a sit and finally an upright catch foot
Yuzuru Hanyu, JPN: 91.99 TES + 83.00 PCS -1.00 = 173.99 Total: 251.06 and into 1st place
  • Solid opening quad toe
  • Nice triple axel right on the music
  • Triple lutz stepping right up into his sit spin with nice positions and good speed and I especially love the use of his arms in the tucked sit position
  • Triple flip + double toe with two arms overhead
  • Good deep edges in this footwork with lots of position changes and a nice traveling sit spin; oh no he pulled a Patrick Chan and got so into his steps that he fell
  • Nice recovery with a triple axel + triple toe
  • Good three jump combo (triple lutz + double toe + double toe)
  • Nice Ina Bauer right into a spread eagle, some really nice transitions in this program
  • Good triple loop
  • Nice donut position into a stretched out sit position in his combination spin but losing speed at the end
  • Love how he comes alive for this choreographic step sequence and he is really leaving everything out on the ice
  • Triple salchow landing right on a beat in the music
  • Nice speed through the sit spin into his signature Biellman
Samuel Contesti, ITA: 75.84 TES + 75.50 PCS = 151.34 Total: 224.89 and into 4th place
  • Huge triple axel to open his program
  • Nice triple lutz
  • Nice triple flip right on the music
  • Good twisted position in the camel spin with a change foot--nice camel with the free leg above 90 degrees
  • Good speed in the second spin but he needs more stretch through his free leg in the sit spin and he loses his centering on the upright spin
  • Nice flow through his footwork and nicely timed with the music
  • Nice triple axel + double toe + double toe
  • Good triple loop
  • Good choreography into a double axel
  • Triple salchow + triple toe with a flip out on the second jump
  • Triple toe + double axel sequence
  • Good speed through the twisted sit but losing it through the back tuck position

Florent Amodio, FRA: 81.41 TES + 81.66 PCS = 163.07 Total: 243.02 and into 2nd place
  • A little forward on the landing of the quad salchow but he hangs on
  • Nice triple axel + double toe with one arm variation
  • Beautiful twisted camel position with nice flow out of the spin
  • Nice flow over his edges in the step sequence
  • I don't really understand this program--from lyrical to Latin to singing birds?
  • Solid triple axel
  • Triple lutz + double toe + double toe with one arm variation
  • Nice stretched out sit position and good fast spin
  • Triple salchow + triple toe
  • Double toe
  • Triple lutz right on the music
  • Double axel
  • The crowd is going nuts for him as he gets into his choreographic step sequence
  • Nice speed through the combination spin with a change of foot
Brian Joubert, FRA: 79.17 TES + 81.94 PCS = 161.11 Total: 244.58 and into 2nd place
  • Now a blast from the past...the Matrix!
  • Nice quad toe
  • Good triple salchow
  • Big triple axel + triple toe
  • Nice triple axel
  • Great entry to his sit spin right out of choreography 
  • Every accent in the music gets a movement which I really appreciate and he has some very deep and long edges in this footwork
  • Triple salchow + double toe
  • Nice triple loop with good flow out of the jump
  • Good triple lutz
  • A little slow on his upright catchfoot spin
  • Triple flip + double axel sequence
Javier Fernandez, ESP: 69.34 TES + 75.66 PCS -1.00 = 144.00 Total: 225.87 and into 6th place
  • Big quad toe to open his program
  • Has to squeak out the landing on the quad salchow
  • Wonky in the air on that triple axel and takes a fall
  • Good speed and flow out of the sit spin
  • A little hop on the landing of the triple axel + triple toe but he hangs on
  • Double lutz with a turn out but he keeps his free leg off the ice
  • Triple salchow + double toe
  • Double flip + double toe + double loop
  • Nice stretched out sit position into a good camel spin but his speed comes and goes throughout the spin
  • Nice speed through his final combination spin
Daisuke Takahashi, JPN: 88.16 TES + 85.78 PCS = 173.94 Total: 259.66 and into 1st place
  • Looked like the quad toe was a bit two footed
  • Solid triple axel
  • Nice triple salchow
  • Good camel spin position with a flying change of foot but no speed by the time he gets to the catchfoot
  • The performance quality and level of difficulty in his steps and transitions is astounding
  • Nice triple axel + triple toe but  a little tight on the landing of the second jump
  • Triple flip + double toe
  • Triple loop
  • Triple lutz + double toe + double loop
  • Really difficult steps right into a triple flip
  • He is selling this choreographic footwork 
  • He could have his free leg a tad higher on the camel spin to bring it to 90 degrees and this spin seems slightly slow but the speed is consistent throughout
Michal Brezina, CZE: 75.86 TES + 77.02 PCS -1.00 = 151.88 Total: 239.55 and into 5th place
  • Opens with a big triple axel
  • Fall on the quad toe attempt
  • Hands down on the quad salchow
  • He could use more stretch through his free leg in the sit spin
  • Nice one foot section in the footwork with good edges but some ice spray here and there
  • Really tight on the triple axel + triple toe but he manages it
  • Triple flip + double toe
  • Triple loop with a turnout but he keeps the free leg up
  • Nice triple lutz
  • Triple salchow + double toe
  • Good camel position into a sit spin losing speed through the change of foot and almost no speed by the end of the spin
  • A little slow through his final spin but maintained speed throughout
Patrick Chan, CAN: 88.56 TES + 90.14 PCS -2.00 = 176.70 Total: 266.11 and into 1st place
  • Beautiful quad toe
  • Quad toe + triple toe so close to the boards but he nailed it
  • Solid triple axel right on the music
  • Great speed through his first combination spin and nice positions
  • Stunning transitions and choreography, everything flows together
  • Triple lutz + half loop + triple salchow
  • Triple loop
  • Triple lutz
  • Nice position in hte twisted sit with a change foot into a nice stretched out sit spin with good speed
  • Triple flip
  • Weird mistake--can't get off the ground on the axel attempt kind of spins around and then falls
  • Stunning choreographic step sequence and a nice recovery from the fall
  • Nice camel spin picking up speed through the sit and ending with a scratch spin
