At the halfway point in the JGP season, there are a surprising number of ladies making their JGP or international debuts and several more making their season debuts.
Evgenia Medvedeva won the gold medal in her debut in Latvia, nearly scoring 170 points. She'll likely need a medal of any color to qualify for the Final. As Russia's lone entry here, the pressure will also be on her to make the medal stand but her arsenal of triple + triples should keep her on the podium.
Angela Wang is making her season debut after qualifying for the Junior Grand Prix Final last season. She's done much better in the free skate than in her short programs and has found herself in a hole in the past. She does have some extremely difficult technical content including her signature triple + triple + double to open her free skate.
Mariah Bell won the bronze medal at JGP Mexico this season. Although she's historically been a short program skater, she was able to pull up after the short program on the strength of her free skate and was only a few points off the silver medal. She'll need a gold medal to earn herself a trip to the Final while a silver or bronze would keep her in contention.
Gabrielle Daleman finished just off the podium at both of her events last season and finished a strong 6th at Junior Worlds. She'll need a personal best to keep up with the top ladies here and claim her first JGP medal.
Miyabi Oba won a silver medal at one of her JGP events last season and finished in 4th at her 2nd event. She was remarkably consistent last year with her scores hovering in a 6 point range, but she'll need to take that consistency up a notch as her scores are about 10 points less than what medal winners have earned this season.
