Mary Beth Marley/Rockne Brubaker at Nesquik Cup

One of the most anticipated new teams at this months US Figure Skating Championships is that of Mary Beth Marley and Rockne Brubaker.  Brubaker is the two time U.S. National Champion and Junior Worlds Champion with his former partner.  After their falter at nationals last year cost them a spot on the Olympic Team, the pair split.  Marley is the 2009 National Novice Silver Medalist in singles.

They competed their short program today at the Mentor Nestle Nesquik Cup in Poland.  Their scores were:
31.77 TES + 24.74 PCS = 56.51

As a comparison: here are the short program scores from the teams on the Senior Grand Prix this season:
Denney/Barrett: 58.49 Skate America
Yankowskas/Coughlin: 57.86 Cup of China
Castelli/Shnapir: 56.34 Skate Canada
Denney/Barrett: 55.03 NHK Trophy
Yankowskas/Coughlin: 54.19 NHK Trophy
Evora/Ladwig: 52.58 Cup of Russia
Evora/Ladwig: 51.46 Cup of China

For their free skate they scored 99.96.  Here's how the Grand Prix teams fared:

Their total score was 156.47.  Here's how they stack up:
Yankowskas/Coughlin: 166.72 Cup of China
Denney/Barrett: 166.42 Skate America
Evora/Ladwig: 162.85 Cup of Russia
Castelli/Shnapir: 159.85 Skate Canada
Yankowskas/Coughlin: 154.88 NHK Trophy
Castelli/Shnapir: 153.33 Skate America
Denney/Barrett: 152.38 NHK Trophy
Evora/Ladwig: 151.66 Cup of China
Simpson/Miller: 145.78 Cup of Russia
Simpson/Miller: 134.05 Skate Canada
Zhang/Toth: 127.48 Trophee Eric Bompard
Zhang/Toth: 126.70 Skate America

Their score makes them highly competitive with the other Senior Pairs teams who competed internationally this season.  Their free scores are slightly lower than the other top teams in the field, but they only executed one throw triple in this competition.  If they can up their technical value and turn the throw double into a throw triple they could pull closer to the top.
