U.S. Nationals: Novice Dance Preview

Two of the three medalists from last seasons intermediate championships have qualified at the novice level.  The Parsons siblings are the favorites going into the event, holding a nearly 11 point lead over the field.  After that there are 5 teams with less than 5 points separating their sectionals scores who will fight for the other spots on the podium.  Like the other novice disciplines, there are a lot of newcomers to nationals and the majority of the teams did not compete at nationals last season.  There is a little less guess work in ice dance as there is less risk for falls as they do not execute jumps, but with two different compulsories and a free dance there is room to move in the standings especially as the compulsories might suit some of the teams more than others and there are different compulsories at nationals than were skated at sectionals.

The teams:

Parsons/Parsons: They qualified with a 1st place finish at Eastern sectionals.

Hawayek/Bramonte: They qualified with a 1st place finish at Midwestern sectionals.

Pogrebinsky/Gudis: They qualified with a 2nd place finish at Eastern sectionals.  They are the reigning national bronze medalists at the intermediate level.

Moore/Klaber: They qualified with a 2nd place finish at Midwestern sectionals.  They are the reigning national silver medalists at the intermediate level.
