US Nationals: Novice Mens Free Skate

  1. Spencer Howe: 44.10 TES + 37.87 PCS = 81.97
    1. He executed a triple toe + double toe, triple salchow, double loop, Level 2 Combination Spin, double axel, Level 4 Sit Spin, triple salchow + double toe, triple toe, double lutz + double toe + double toe and Level 4 Sit Spin with only one negative GOE.
  2. Cale Ambroz: 23.39 TES + 32.73 PCS -2.00 = 54.12
    1. He executed a single axel, triple salchow, triple toe, Level 2 Combination Spin, Double Lutz + double axel sequence, single loop, Level 1 Sit Spin, Double toe + single toe (downgraded), triple salchow and Level 2 Combination Spin with one positive GOE.  He had two falls.
  3. Marcus Mimidis: 34.49 TES + 34.66 PCS = 69.15
    1. He executed a single lutz, double flip, double axel + triple toe, Level  3 Combination Spin, triple loop, Level 1 Sit spin, triple salchow + double toe, double axel and Level 3 Sit Spin with only three negative GOEs.

    1. He has nice musicality
    2. Nice triple to start the program
    3. Double + Double combo with tano arm
    4. Good sit spin positions
    5. Problem centering on this second sit spin
    6. Nice triple with a solid landing
    7. Fall on his next triple
    8. 2 + 2 (tano) + 2 (two-footed)
    9. Nice camel spin position
    10. He's lacking energy in this step sequence
    11. Double axel at the very end of his program, a bobble on the landing but he hangs on
  8. Jordan Moeller: 40.76 TES + 42.04 PCS = 82.80 and into 1st place
    1. Nice double axel at the beginning of his program
    2. Fast sit spin
    3. Triple with turn out
    4. Pops his triple into a double and is really close to the boards
    5. 2+2+2
    6. He needs more musicality and energy in this step sequence
    7. Nice camel spin positions
    8. Triple with a hand down but he tacks on a single
    9. Double + Single
    10. Triple to end the jumps
    11. A lack of centering in this combo spin but he picks up speed at the end
  9. Andrew Nagode: 36.02 TES + 41.91 PCS -1.00 = 76.93 and into 4th place
    1. I'm getting a little tired of Rachmaninoff
    2. He pops his first jump into a single
    3. Nice recovery with a Double + Double
    4. Solid double axel
    5. Triple + Double but he's tilted in the air
    6. Nice sit spin
    7. Another tilted triple and he puts his hand down
    8. Fall on his flying sit spin
    9. Good power getting back into his next triple (two-footed)
    10. Good energy in the step sequence
    11. 2 + 2 with no speed at the end of the program
    12. Nice fast combination spin
  10. Alexander Bjelde: 40.26 TES + 43.82 PCS = 84.08 and into 2nd place
    1. I love the personality and invisible props at the beginning of this program
    2. 3 + 2 very solid
    3. Nice double
    4. High double axel
    5. Fast sit spin
    6. Double with a hand down--it looks like his blade caught the ice on take off
    7. Double
    8. 2 + 2 + 2
    9. He needs more extension through his camel position but nice fast combination spin
    10. I'd like more performance in this step sequence
    11. Nice triple at the end
    12. Slow final spin
  11. Nathan Chen: 57.45 TES + 53.48 PCS = 110.93 and into 1st place
    1. He opens with a 2A + 2+2 very solid
    2. Triple + Double
    3. Triple a little forward on the landing but he hangs on
    4. Nice spin positions in his camel
    5. Playing to the judges in his step sequence
    6. Fast sit spin
    7. Great combination spin and he shows off his flexibility with a leg catch upright spin
    8. I'd like to see him finish some of his movements a little more but that will come with maturity
    9. Solid Triple
    10. Double
    11. Triple
    12. Ends with a Triple Double and he rotates so quickly!
    13. Solid program!
  12. Nix Phengsy: 41.56 TES + 53.48 PCS = 83.60 and into 3rd place
    1. Triple + Double combination to start the program
    2. 2 + 2
    3. Triple with a step out
    4. Good low sit spin and good speed
    5. 3 + 2--I'd like to see him get into his knees more on the landing so he can land the jumps better
    6. Triple with hand down
    7. Single?
    8. Good step sequence with the music
    9. Fast combination spin
    10. Double axel
    11. He needs to work on his camel position but he has a really nice upright position in his final combination spin
